What Makes us Different

One of the most remarkable things about Debney Meadows Primary School is our wonderful community. The people in our community make our school such a vibrant, energetic and optimistic place to be. The relationships we develop with our community members define our learning environment and our high levels of student engagement.

Our small boutique school enables us to get to know and cater for your child as an individual. We work hard to build relationships with students, families, and the wider community, to support children not only academically, but in all facets of their development. Most importantly, we believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and as a local school we are a part of that village. We strongly value the relationships that we build with you to help raise a happy, academically-successful child.

We offer individualised learning for each and every student in our school. Teachers use assessment to make sure the learning is just-right, and that the children at Debney Meadows are in a comfortable yet academically challenging stretch-zone, regardless of their year level. We offer a unique, project-driven approach to teaching mathematics, where our students are engaged and enjoying learning these important concepts and skills. Every classroom has a well-resourced classroom library, which enables students to use mentor texts to develop their skills in both reading and writing. As part of our extensive literacy program, we have a number of well-known actors from across the city visiting our school every Tuesday to run Readers Theatre with our students. We have an innovative approach to engaging children in the arts, to bring out their creative and critical thinking skills through a school-wide STEAM program.

At DMPS, we value a holistic approach to wellbeing. We believe that mindfulness should be at the centre of building resilience and the ability to cope in an ever-changing world. We have a school-wide social and emotional learning program, developed in-line with international research from Finland, and delivered by highly qualified professionals. We invite you to visit our school and take a tour, and walk through our newly-planted orchard at the front of the school.

With thanks,

Rachel Rasmussen
